OIVA Hiatus

Unfortunately, we must announce that we will be not be holding the Ottawa Independent Video Awards (OIVAs) in 2018.

When we launched promotion of the OIVAs in 2017, we were excited about the public response we had received for the first OIVA’s held in 2015.  Despite receiving many wonderful and well-deserving nominations and submissions such as yours, unfortunately we did not receive as many submissions as we did in 2015, resulting in some categories being poorly represented.  In addition, we have been dealing with delays in the opening of the Ottawa Art Gallery’s new multi-purpose screening room, which has resulted in our cancellation of the venue twice.  After much discussion here at SAW Video, we have reached the conclusion that we cannot create an event that would celebrate the wonderful diversity of our independent filmmaking community.

A hint of the OIVAs will still be in the air at our upcoming Resolution screening on Saturday February 24th when we will be honouring one of our own with the Rob Thompson award, given once every two years to recognize a member in our community who has displayed an exceptional commitment to their own practice as well as to the growth of media arts in Ottawa.
